Interview with XaPhobia - He Made The ZombiePigman Skin!!

Today I got to interview the creator of the ZombiePigman Skin! XaPhobia! Awesome Guy! Awesome Mob! Awesome Skin!
His Twitter!
Skins!

Start Interview -

Sam Wilson: Firstly, Explain who you are to those who don't know.

Chris B: Mm, XaPhobia, I'm a guy of a few talents, I guess. I write code in Java and C++. I also code websites as a side hobby. I'm getting progressively better at it, but people know me as the minecraft skinmaker who created that notorious Zombie Pigmen in the Nether.

Sam Wilson: That is awesome!
Sam Wilson: Have you played much of the 1.0.0 update of Minecraft?

Chris B: More than I'd like to admit, really. All I've been doing these last few weeks was playing in a few 1.0.0 servers. With a side play of Grand Theft Auto IV.

Sam Wilson: Haha. Did you attend Minecon?

Chris B: Of course. It was fun flying out to Las Vegas from Florida.

Sam Wilson: What was the best bit?

Chris B: Getting to help out as one of the MineCon Agents, I believe.

Sam Wilson: That's cool ^.^
Sam Wilson: What's your favourite mob in the game?

Chris B: I think that one's a given. The very one I created, of course! The Nethers most populated mob, the Zombie Pigmen

Sam Wilson: Haha. Singleplayer or Multiplayer?

Chris B: A split of both, really. I do enjoy playing Multiplayer with friends, but I'm trying to make my own single player adventure series on YouTube.

Sam Wilson: Fair enough.
Sam Wilson: Would you class yourself as a builder or a survivor?

Chris B: Honestly? Survivor. I'm not fond of playing in Creative mode.

Sam Wilson: haha.
Sam Wilson: If you could REMOVE one thing from the game... what would it be?

Chris B: There's not much I'd remove, really. The only things I've distaste for is the enchanting items with xp and how they weakened the diamond sword.

Sam Wilson: If you could ADD one thing to the game... what would it be?

Chris B: Ohohoho, that'd be a tough one. Actually, no it's not. I want barbed wire fences! But Evil_Notch doesn't like them. >:C

Sam Wilson: Haha
Sam Wilson: What other games do you play?

Chris B: I have too many to list. D: But specific ones? GTA IV is one of my favourites along with Resident Evil. But if we're going based off computer games, then Terraria is coming in a close third, right behind the Roller Coaster Tycoon series. Except Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. I don't like the new style. I miss the old blocky style!

Sam Wilson: Haha
Sam Wilson: When you made the ZombiePigman, did you expect it to be used by Notch?

Chris B: Actually, no. I was originally making it as a halloween thing for Miclee when we were with World of Minecraft. He was an Owner and I was an Executive back then (Highest ranks. Owner > Executive), and we were doing a staff Halloween skin theme. But Miclee tweeted Notch with it and Notch actually saw it.

Sam Wilson: Woah, that's awesome!
Sam Wilson: Finally, How much more would you like to be added to Minecraft?

Chris B: More use in the oceans are a must. If the world generator gets tweaked to support larger maps and deeper oceans, then adding hostile water mobs will be a definite. I also would rather have the Nether exist directly below the bedrock level of the current world. Adding those "world holes" back so you can just dig your way into the Nether. Lets not forget giving the Villagers some functionality. Like killing a librarian gives you some books or a bookshelf, killing the priest gives gold nuggets or ingots, killing the normal people give wood tools or be capable of trading with all of them. They need sounds, too!

Sam Wilson: Awesome

--End Interview--

Well, that was fun :D Great Guy! Great Answers.

Peace,
Pige

Interview with Astragali - He does show-notes for The Shaft

Today I got to interview Astragali. He does the show-notes for The Shaft as well as other awesome things! Awesome Guy!
His YouTube!
His Website!

TheRussianPigeon: Firstly, Explain who you are to those who do not know

Astragali: OK :) I'm Mark Cooper, mostly known as Astragali, and I write a Minecraft blog, The Minecraft Scribe. I also help to compile the show notes for The Shaft Podcast, and recently, I became the English-language editor for the Minecraft web comic, Wondercraft.

TheRussianPigeon: Awesome.
TheRussianPigeon: Have you been playing much of the 1.0.0 update of the game?

Astragali: Pretty much as soon as it became available :)

TheRussianPigeon: Haha. Awesome :)
TheRussianPigeon: What's your favourite mob?

Astragali: We're supposed to *like* them? LOL... Erm, I think the skeleton :)

TheRussianPigeon: Haha
TheRussianPigeon: Did you attend Minecon?

Astragali: No *sigh*... I couldn't afford to go. But I *did* watch the stream of the launch :)

TheRussianPigeon: I didn't attend either.
TheRussianPigeon: So, how did you get the position of compiling the show notes for The Shaft?

Astragali: Right out of the blue, actually. Brent Copeland asked me if I could join him and Eric Fullerton in a Skype call, without explaining why... It wasn't until I got there that they basically said, "We love your blog - would you edit our show notes for us?" That was a no-brainer on my part XD

TheRussianPigeon: Haha.

Astragali: I do the Minecraft Daily, Excavation Station, and Sightings sections :)

TheRussianPigeon: Awesome! If you could remove one thing from the game. What would it be?

Astragali: The bloody hunger bar! It pretty much forces people to build a farm as the first thing they have after making a shelter.

TheRussianPigeon: Haha. Have you ever tried creating a mod for the game?

Astragali: I'd love to, but I can't program in Java. I can barely program in BASIC! >.<

TheRussianPigeon: Haha. Do you play with mods in the game?

Astragali: Yes, I have Zombe's Mod Pack (out of which I use Fly and Compass), Single-Player Commands, OptiFine. I've been trying out Animal Tweaks, too, and really like it!

TheRussianPigeon: Awesome! What other games do you play?

Astragali: I've been trying out a few from the Humble Indie bundle (recently I tried out Uplink and Darwinia), and I've also become hooked on Solar 2 and SpaceChem. The latter has been making my brain hurt rather impressively.

TheRussianPigeon: Haha. What game are you looking forward to in 2012?

Astragali: I'm itching to play Scrolls... I won an alpha code for it from The Shaft back in April - and I just wanna play it!

TheRussianPigeon: Haha. Finally, What would you like to see implemented into Minecraft?
Astragali: Rideable mounts... Ideally, a dragon, but I'll settle for being able to ride a pig around a maze without making myself dizzy :D

TheRussianPigeon: Awesome! Thanks!

--End Interview--

He's an awesome guy and you should all go subscribe to his YouTube.

Sincerely
Sam (TheRussianPigeon)

Interview With Cyberpew - Minecraft, Minecraft, Minecraft!

Sorry I haven't been able to release any interviews, been busy as the latest writer for CraftHub.net

I got to Interview Cyberpew Today, which was awesome. He's a great guy too!

Cyberpew on YouTube
TheGamersAbode

TheRussianPigeon: Firstly, Introduce yourself to those who do not know who you are.

Cyberpew: I'm Cyberpew, owner of an upcoming Minecraft community called PewCraft as well as owner of an upcoming gaming community called "The Gamers Abode". I also do commentaries on YouTube.

TheRussianPigeon: Awesome! Are you enjoying the 1.0.0 version of the game?

Cyberpew: I am on some aspects. But, I personally think too much stuff was added that was unnessary, for example... "The End". The game is a sandbox game... so it should not have an end. I do miss the game back in the beginning of beta... it seemed to be a lot more fun.

TheRussianPigeon: If you could remove ONE thing from the game then, what would it be?

Cyberpew: The End.

TheRussianPigeon: What is it that you don't like about it?

Cyberpew: It has no use at all to me, I've found no use to it. But, that's my personal opinion.

TheRussianPigeon: Would you say that you are  a survivor or a builder?

Cyberpew: Survivor.

TheRussianPigeon: Same. So, what are you planning for 'The Gamers Abode'? Describe what it will be.

Cyberpew: I can't release much information about it at this time because I don't want to get people asking me "when will it be out?!" as that stresses me out. But, basically it will rovide a platform to centralize gamers coming from all over the world and help them interact easier with each other. We will also provide a YouTube sponsorship service in which we submit user videos to our channels if they are a director for our channel. We will also host various communication services, such as IRC, Teamspeak, etc. But, more about it will be announced at a later date.

TheRussianPigeon: Awesome! What made you want to do something like this?

Cyberpew: I just wanted to help the gaming community out a bit as I think something like this would help gamers come together as a community better.

TheRussianPigeon: Oh. Did you attend Minecon this year?

Cyberpew: No I did not, couldn't afford it. :(

TheRussianPigeon: If there is one next year, will you try to go?

Cyberpew: Possibly if I have the money, but I doubt I will.

TheRussianPigeon: Which games do you play? Other than Minecraft

Cyberpew: Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Audiosurf, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Counter Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2, Dead Island, Terraria,The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Left 4 Dead 2, RAGE, Trine 2
Cyberpew: Those are the main ones.

TheRussianPigeon: Awesome! Finally, What game/games are you looking forward to next year?

Cyberpew: Minecraft 2? Haha. I don't know, I've never paid attention to upcoming games that will be out in 2012.

TheRussianPigeon: Awesome Thanks!

--End Interview--

Overall That Was Great!
Awesome Guy!
Awesome Stuff!
Stay Tuned for More

Sincerely

Minecraft Helpful Hints, Tips and Tricks!

Hello! My name is kerrytaz. I work for Contrillion Industries, or MinecraftUpdate.

Anyway, this is my first post for TheRussianPigeon and I am honored to be blogging for him.

This post, if you didn't read the title, will be about Minecraft helpful hints and tricks.

Peaceful Mode

If you can't outwit zombies, or the spiders always catch you, set the difficulty to peaceful. Your health will quickly regenerate, your food bar won't hurt you and all hostile mobs will disappear. This becomes very helpful when building large structures. However, most people consider this to be cheating the game.

Remember the Pattern

Struggling to remember crafting patterns? Trying to make a bucket but instead you make a minecart? Take a closer look at a pattern, like the fishing pole pattern. Take notice of how the sticks and string line up to look like a fishing pole. Many patterns follow this trait, such as doors which use two columns of wooden planks to make the rectangular shape of a door, and swords which use two wooden planks, cobblestone, iron ingots, or diamond for the blade and a stick as the handle. Just try to think how you would build it in real life.

Shelter?!?

Is it nearing nighttime and you haven't finished your shelter yet? In an emergency situation and need some shelter? Dig three blocks down and place a block above you, and now you're safe! This method is not recommended though, as you're completely exposed to mobs as you leave. Pillar jumping is another solution. Simply make a pillar directly under you until you are out of reach from the skeleton's arrows. Or you could just go to peaceful.

First Day

Punch down trees until you're satisfied with the amount of wood you have. Turn one of the wood blocks into planks and turn those into a crafting table by making a two by two square in your inventory. After that make a pickaxe and a shovel in the crafting table. Decide whether you want your base to be a house (Option A), or cut into a mountain (Option B), make your base accordingly, and try to keep it as close to your spawn as possible.
Option A: Use any block to make a home. This should be large enough for your first night, and all of the above should be able to be finished in about 5 minutes. When you get enough stone to make a furnace, you can use two planks to smelt three wood into charcoal, the cheap version of coal. It functions exactly the same as coal, and you can craft 1 charcoal into 4 torches which can illuminate your house. Remember that wood is flammable so DO NOT use 'fireplaces' in a wooden house!
Option B: Just cut into a mountain and make a hole going in, or what-ever suits you best, then dig in the middle to make a 1x2x2 doorway and make a door, put the door in and start carving out your house. Be sure to check the mountainsides to see if there is any coal jutting out. Mine some stone to obtain cobblestone, make a furnace, get your piece of coal, put it in the furnace (1 coal can smelt up to 8 items) and smelt some wood into charcoal. Charcoal can be used like coal, make 12 torches and leave the last piece of charcoal in there for future 'charcoal smelting'. This is the most efficient way to build a house because you gain materials when you expand the house instead of losing them.

Second Day

Your second day should be spent making it possible for yourself to continue to be able to work at night, or to be able to skip the night completely by building a bed. Charcoal is yet again effective and easy, especially if you spawned on a large flat land area, lacking in easy to find coal deposits, or haven't spent much time underground yet. If you do have enough Coal to make 20-30 Torches, you can effectively protect yourself against mobs spawning in your secure areas and spawning right outside (Torches on outside walls are extremely important, as mobs will spawn farther away, keeping them from noticing you if you stay close, which is amplified by using a "Torch Fence," i.e. a Fence lined with, or comprised of, Torches, surrounding the perimeter of your plot of land). Getting your bearings, learning where different herds of animals are, and gathering resources from them is also important, Sheep drop Wool, required for Beds, Cows drop Raw Beef and Leather, used to make Armor, Chickens drop Raw Chicken and Feathers, used to make Arrows, and Pigs only drop Raw Pork, which can be cooked, like all the other meats, to become more effective. Make sure to leave at least two of what you find alive, as you'll want to lure them to your home eventually with Wheat for Breeding, Mobs don't spawn like they used to.

Mining

Option A: Make sure you have a lot of pickaxes and at least 64 torches in your inventory. Slowly mine a big stairway to bedrock, lighting your way with the torches as you go. If you plan to have 1x2x2 paths leading off the side of the stairway, bring as many torches as you can hold. When you get to bedrock go up 12 stairs (to get to the diamond layer) then mine a 1x2x infinite corridor.
Option B: Make a 1x2x2 doorway in the back of your home. After that easy step, make a huge room and have several different ways to mine. Low and high, left and right - you're sure to hollow out a mountain soon, getting hefty supplies of coal and iron.
Option C: Find a cave, make a trail of torches down it if you find any iron or coal mine it, when you reach a dead end go back collecting the torches back then go down another branch do this until you have done all the branches then go out and make a signal that you have dived the cave so you don't do it again.
Option D: You will need about 2 stacks of ladders, 1 bucket of water, a few iron(or one diamond pickaxe(s)) and a sign to make a mineshaft by mining down one block next to you until it's out of reach then directly below you because you know you're safe. Do this till bedrock, place down 12 blocks by holding jump and place block at the same time then make a ladder to the top (this part can be annoying). Go back down (using the ladder for safety) and place down the sign at eye level. After that, you put the water down (it will float) and now you can fall down safely without the ladder. Make a 1x2x2 infinite corridor collecting resources on your way, you now have a mineshaft.

Coal Without Mining

You have made your shelter, already mined some Cobblestone and can't find any Coal to light your environment? Just make a furnace, take some Wooden Planks as fuel and burn some Wood you didn't already craft to Wooden Planks. This will get you some Charcoal which has exactly the same functions of normal Coal that is mined with a pickaxe.

Places to Build

There are some recommendations where a beginner should build and where not: Use any material you want, excepting Sand or Gravel as they are influenced by gravity (which means that they fall down if no other block is under them) or dirt, because creepers can easily blow it up. Also remember not to build your shelter on Sand or Gravel, because if it comes to your mind to dig down or make a cellar, you'll have a problem because the Sand keeps falling down on you and it will take a long time to remove it from the base.
For beginners, you might want to hollow out the side of a hill or mountain. This can be done quickly and turn into a good shelter, but keep in mind it will be harder to find your home if you wander off, or you could place torches if you have any around the entrance. A second design is to collect a lot of wood and build a wooden house. These stand out easily, look good, and function well. The bad thing is they are flammable.

Enemy+Enemy=Friend?

Getting beaten up good by lots of hostile mobs? Remember: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Skeletons become hostile to each other if their arrows hit each other, and you can use the blast radius of the Creeper's explosion to injure other mobs. Other mobs, not yourself, of course. If you happen to encounter any wild wolves on your travels, you can use some bones to tame them. Tame wolves can let off some pressure in a battle by fighting other mobs for you. If a skeleton kills a creeper you get a music disc.

Darkness

Out of Coal/Charcoal? Your hands bleeding from punching too much wood? Remember that hostile mobs require a light level of less than 7 to spawn. Use this knowledge to save some torches in your shelter. On another note, if you are still using hands to chop wood at this point, then you should seriously consider making an axe.

Second-Tier Ores

See some Redstone, Diamond, or some fancy ore? Don't use low-level Pickaxes to mine them! Remember, Wood pickaxes only mine Coal and Stone, while Cobblestone mines Iron and Lapis Lazuli. Iron mines all blocks, except for Obsidian in which Diamond has the honor of mining. Be careful - lava lakes often occur at the same level as precious ores.

Item Durability

Mining deep underground and suddenly, inexplicably, your Pickaxe turns into your hand? Is it a bug? Or is it the feared Herobrine? It's neither! It's Item Durability...or Uses! Take care to look at the 'health' of your item (the little coloured bar underneath the item) before departing on any long trips, be it exploring or mining, as the last thing you want to do is to take the long trip back home just for a Axe, or a Pickaxe. Time is precious, so try bringing along a crafting table, or stock up on tools if you have to.

To the bottom of the ravine!

Often, you will come across the top of a ravine, with all the precious ores beneath. Carry a stack of sand (some gravel will become flint, so you may not have enough to get back up), and drop it on a location repeatedly until you have a pillar to the bottom. Standing on the pillar and digging down until it's gone will get you to the bottom without fall damage! Another way is to dig a spiral staircase downwards till you want to stop. Then dig towards the wall of the ravine then if it is still too deep, keep on digging!

Again, thank you to TheRussianPigeon for letting me blog here!

Interview with Wafflecakez - From TheDashboard

Today's interview was with a friend of mine - Wafflecakez
He's a truly awesome guy and gave me some in depth answers.
Subscribe To Him!
Facebook Page - LIKE IT NOW

TheRussianPigeon: Wafflecakez, to those who do not know who you are, explain who you are.

Wafflecakez: 21 year old youtuber. casual gamer who records gameplay,  tries to make people laugh, uses social media sites and expresses opinions maybe a bit tooo much.

TheRussianPigeon: haha
TheRussianPigeon: :3
TheRussianPigeon: What is your favourite game?

Wafflecakez: ever?

TheRussianPigeon: Yeah

Wafflecakez: i don't have a single favourite game unfortunatly. i know thats a very generic thing to say but im a stupidly indecisive person. But 2 that stand out are Final Fantasy 7 (again generic but still true) and Sonic Generations. Generations because I would of had to have chosen Sonic 1 just because it started the franchise but Generations has a bit of the whole franchise all together.

TheRussianPigeon: Awesome.
TheRussianPigeon: Do you prefer multiplayer games or singleplayer games.
TheRussianPigeon: ?

Wafflecakez: Again, very indecisive answer but sort of nudging towards Single Player. Single Player, i can move on my own pace and go as fast as i want, or go as slow as i want and get all the achievements or uncover everything the developers have hidden in the game. However I love multiplayer because playing with your mates is always fun. However it can be difficult to have your mates online at the same time what with busy schedules and stuff and playing with people around the world people have different play styles and could deliberatly go lonewolf on you leaving you in the dust if you're not up to the task. I also believe that in some games where a single player mode and a multiplayer mode is on offer (e.g COD) they tend to focus too much on the multiplayer side of it which dramatically impacts on the single player mode. such as longevity and storyline quality.

TheRussianPigeon: Next, What made you want to start recording gameplay and producing videos?

Wafflecakez: Well, as a very active youtuber, i watch ALOT of youtube videos. I've said it before on twitter - the content available on there is amazing. from hilarious comedy to watching day to day lives of vloggers like myself, from gameplay videos to actual mini-series like gamespot's 'controller'. youtube, in my opinion is much better than any of the stuff on tv nowadays. this side of the pond anyway (i love american television). I used to hate watching people play games, i always wanted to grab the controller and have my go, but now sometimes i find myself forcing the controller on other people so i can see them in action. it's changed me in that sense - and i like it. there are some people out there who i know would fall in love with this stuff the same as i have. which is why i promote alot of the stuff. i guess thats why i started doing it myself (along with my own passion for gaming, and just generally wanting to make comedy videos to make people laugh). i want to show people how amazing a site youtube really is. and i didnt really answer that question did i? haha

TheRussianPigeon: Really good answers dude. Last question, What game would you like to be released in 2012?

Wafflecakez: Last Question? NOOOOOO. D: urrrrm, Bioshock Infinite!! (another favourite)

TheRussianPigeon: Thank You Very Much :)

Great Interview! :) Great Guy!

Interview with WelshPixie - Female Minecrafter

Today I got to interview, WelshPixie! It was AWESOME.
MinecraftWB
Welsh Pixie on YouTube
@Welshpixie on Twitter

Let's Begin!
First, explain who you are to those who do not know!

I'm WelshPixie! I'm from Wales, in the UK, but I've been living in South Africa for almost three years. I'm female, and 30. I'm a manager over at Minecraft Workbench (Community Manager and co-owner of the site), and I make gaming videos on YouTube.

Did you attend Minecon this year... if so, was it fun?

Alas, not :( It was just too far away - I couldn't have afforded the flight, let alone accomodation and all the other stuff. But from what I've seen of vlogs and photos, it looked awesome. I hope they host it in South Africa next year but I'm not getting my hopes up :D

Are you enjoying Minecraft 1.0.0?

I actually haven't played it much! I was doing great at keeping up to date with the changes in the pre-releases, but then my family came for a two-week holiday and I missed a bunch of updates and had too much going on to catch up with everything when it was finally released. I've downloaded the latest weekly snapshot though, so it's more recent than the officially released client and has some nice changes in it, like oak leaves having a chance to drop red apples and farmland no longer trampling when you walk on it. I haven't played 1.0 to 'The End' though - I've dabbled with enchanting tables for demonstration videos and had some fun spawning a bunch of dragons when they were first released but that's about it.

How did you get introduced to Minecraft?

My boyfriend Jaco (known online as RustyBroomhandle) keeps up with a lot of indie game sites. He found an article somewhere on Minecraft just before it got the free weekend and we both downloaded it, loved it and purchased it immediately. Jaco had a week off work that week and we spent it exclusively playing Minecraft until 4 in the morning, getting about five hours sleep and getting up to play more Minecraft!

What is your favourite mob?

Well I'm Welsh, I'd be doing a disservice to my country if I didn't say the sheep! I like the slimes though, they're cute. The Blazes look like fun but I haven't played with them yet, only harassed them from the safety of creative mode.

Do you own Minecraft Pocket Edition?

Not yet - my current android is too stone-age to run it. But I'm getting it upgraded in about a week to hopefully a Samsung Galaxy Note and the first thing I'll be buying for it will be MC:PE!

What would you like to see in future versions of Minecraft?

More sheep! :P Hmm. I think more items - more things to find, to pick up, more crafting recipes, that kinda thing. A general increase in 'things to do'.

Do you play any other games?

According to Steam I have 118 games there, and a closet full of physical games besides. So yes! I've been almost exclusively playing Skyrim since its release - I've clocked over 250 hours in it in total, have one character just over 50, one at 43, several at around 15... I do have a life, honest! I also play Terraria, love games like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Fallout - and I have a special place in my heart for the old RPGs I grew up with like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, etc. Oh, and I play several MMOs on and off; WoW, Dofus, Wakfu, Rift, Everquest II... I'll pretty much play anything ;p

What is your favourite block?

Grass! With wood a close second. I like natural-looking things.

Who is the best person you have met through the Minecraft community?

Oh man - I've made soooo many friends through Minecraft it's unreal. The first friends we made through the game were Luclin and his RL friends Syllus and Subraho - collectively they were the original founders of MCWB. We're pretty close with those guys and talk to them almost every day online. Then we met and befriended people like Wolv, BitBurner, MCC, Paul - who are all awesome - but more than that, I'm incredibly lucky to have a small group of people who've become close and supportive friends that are all fantastic - MadMommy, MinecraftGeek (and his many secret identities!), Astragali, Vancecrafter, and loooads more that I'm not going to list here because it would take up so much space! And last but not least, the entire MCWB staff team. They're all freaking awesome and make my job SO much easier. They rawk, and deserve a huge amount of praise for the work they put in to keeping MCWB a fun and friendly place to hang out.

-end Interview-

Well that was AWESOME. Great woman ^.^ And she's Welsh! (No Sheep References Will Be Made)

Thanks

Me: Awesome, do you play the game?

Zetterstrand: Sure. I've set up a server for my daughter and we build stuff together now and then.

Me: What do you think of the new update?

Zetterstrand: Potions and Enchantments are fun but it is a pity they removed Herobrine.

Me: Haha, what are your opinions of texture packs in the game?

Zetterstrand: It's a great thing for those that wish to customise the game to their liking.

Me: Have you been contacted by the guys at Mojang about doing any more art for the game?

Zetterstrand: We'll see. There's still a few pixels left in the png-file...

Me: Awesome! Did you go to Minecon?

Zetterstrand: But of course!

Me: Final Question, what inspired you to become an artist?

Zetterstrand: Mostly watching great paintings at museums as a kid. I felt the need to learn more about how the stuff was made. I'm still learning...

BrentFor those that don't know me, I am @brentcopeland, one of the hosts for the Minecraft show, The Shaft.  A weekly podcast where we talk about minecraft, and the minecraft community.  We usually have a minecraft personality on the show as a guest host and then post it as an audio podcast and uncut video on youtube.

MeDid you got to Minecon? If So, was it fun?
BrentI did attend Minecon this year.  The Shaft was lucky enough to be selected for a panel, and it was the most amazing weekend of my life.  We met so many minecraft fans, and fans of the show, and to have a full room live listening to us and not storming out was incredible.  We also got the chance to meet all our internet friends that we had been talking with and playing minecraft with over the past year.

It was surreal.  Checking in to the hotel, I look over and see Notch with EZ checking in and on the way to the elevator, BebopVox and MinecraftChick appear and from then on, it was sheer madness.  C418 was a blast as always.  He's a real cool kid with a style of his own.

Later that night, we were all just hanging out listening to a band, and you would just look around and see all these Minecraft Faces.  Lydia, PaulSoaresJr, UncleGodFather, Bit Burner, Luclin, Bashcraft, BebopVox, Wolv21, ChimneySwift, The Minecraft Teacher!, Coestar, Guude, JoeHills, Danno, and the list goes on and on, and you'd think... damn.. this is good resolution compared to youtube!  Real Life Minecon Let's Play in action.. vLogception.  And they were ALL awesome people.

And if seeing all those guys wasn't enough, seeing all the fans, and meeting new fans was just incredible. We spent a few hours each day at our sponsor's booth (LethalDrive) and met so many people, it was tremendous.  Then later getting to connect with them again at the Shaft panel on the last day was absolutely amazing.  It made me want to come home and create more content for anyone that will take the time to watch.   I actually had a lunch meeting with Eric today talking a bout just that.  A few new series and ideas we want to create over the coming months.  And trying to find a way to quit my 9-5 job to be able to work on this full time.  So yah... Minecon.  Brilliant.   Mojang, Lydia and Vu did an absolutely top notch incredible job at putting it together, and I can't wait for the next one.

MeAre you enjoying Minecraft 1.0.0?
BrentAm I enjoying Minecraft 1.0.0?  I am, but I have not really had that much time to play in the full game yet. I just started a new streaming series, and it follows me in the 1.0.0 world from start to finish.  @brentcopeland - Brentopia which you can find on my personal youtube channel if you don't catch the live stream.  The quality is a bit crappy since I am recording it through justin.tv and not through fraps, so until we get that ironed out, it'll just be going on my personal channel.  Once the quality is on par with what we like to produce for the DWPN, then we may move it to the main channel.  But, yes, I am enjoying the 1.0.0 experience so far.  The next show, I will be starting my farm so I quit having to kill chickens for food!

MeWhat is your favourite mob in the game?
BrentMy favorite mob in the game currently is the endermen.  I just think they are the most dynamic, hard to fight, and they look really cool.  I love purple.. and I love black :)

MeWhat is your favourite thing about the game?
BrentMy favorite thing about the game, besides the community that has built up around it, is that I can affect the world I'm in.  Not in a, this npc moves here, and this dialogue changes my appearance type way, but I can take this block of the world, and move it here.  I can take this mountain, and make it a lake.  Maybe it's a god complex.  Because basically, that's what you become.

MeMulti-Player or Single-Player?
BrentDo i like multiplay or single play better?   That's a tough question.  They both give me things I desire in gaming, and I love them both for so many reasons. I do love multiplayer more just for the social aspect, and for the most part, I can do as much, or more in multiplayer, so if I want to be along and just build, I can.  But for the most part, I play on the shaftlands, and thus, I am an admin and have too many powers, and it's hard to just play.  It's pretty much creative mode for me with a pick that does thor lightning bolts and summons 1000 cows at a time if i want..  um.. yeah.. I like that.   But I also like my solo play world where I am just being, and creating something that I know is all mine, and no one has helped me... well.. except for the 100's of  youtube videos of showing me how to do cool stuff.. ok.. so scratch that... still love it though

MeCreative or Survival?
BrentI do prefer survival mode over creative mode though.  I'm just not creative enough to take advantage of creative mode, and it just feels like I'm cheating at that point.  I like survival on normal mode.

MeWhat would you like to see in future updates of Minecraft?
BrentI'd really like to see a major change to minecraft, and I'm sure this is controversial.  And it would have to rewind, or could rewind a few things, but I would really like minecraft to step back and be more of a tool, than a game... Building a plugin system and then minecraft is done.   Minecraft itself would do nothing but generate a world.  Then in the plugin system, people could write plugins, and Mojang themselves would right plugins, so you would have the cow plugin.   And all it did was add cows.  You would have the whole enderworld plugin to add endermen and the enderdragon and that whole sceneario of game play.  Then you would have a plugin store like the app store and buy what you wanted for the game... SOOO... you get minecraft for free... then you buy plugins to make the world what  YOU want it to be.  Did you like the halloween update?  well it's a plugin.. for $1 you can have it... like endermen?  eh.. ok.. save a $1... Like what some other plugin developer made?  well pay him the $1 and get unicorns!  Poop blocks?!  DON'T GET ME STARTED?!  Ok.. so maybe that was a bit more answer than you were looking for.   I'll just back it up a second and say there's so much that I want.. because that's what's so awesome about the game.. there are no limits... so.. i want a golden goose daddy.  Maybe even a snozzberry.

MeHow long do you want to keep doing the Shaft Podcast for?
BrentThe Shaft?  How long do I want to keep doing it?  Until it's not fun anymore.  I hope that's 500 years.  Seriously.  I love doing the show.  I love the community.  I could spend the rest of my life doing this.  Will minecraft evolve and be around in 20 years?  That would be awesome.  Atleast to episode 2000.  I think that's what I predicted in one of the  early shows.   Gotta beat wes and eric with my prediction!

MeWhat previous work have you done before the Shaft?
BrentBefore the shaft, I was a host on shows like, Control Point, a TF2 podcast and Nation of Gamers.  And of course World of WoW.   We've been podcasting for like 5 years or something crazy with the dead workers party.  You can see a bunch of the old shows on our network site:  http://www.deadworkers.com/network

MeHave you ever made a Minecraft mod?
BrentWell that's an easy one.. No :)  I have never made a Minecraft mod.  Though there is an official shaft mod being made with poop blocks and other silliness worth of the shaft!  God our community is insane and awesome at the same time.

MeIf you could add one block to the game what would it be?
BrentThe one block i would add to the game would be the audio block.  Connect it to your folder of mp3's and listen to them while you play.

MeFinally, If you could remove ONE thing from the game, what would it be?
BrentAnd if I could remove one thing from the game.   Hmmm.  Griefers?  does that count?  It's the one thing that I think can ruin SMP for folks is griefers.  But I'm pretty sure you are talking about some sort of game mechanic or something within the game itself and not the evil humans outside of it playing the game.  I'd probably remove the achievement system.  Atleast in its current state.  I can't tell you how many times i've gotten wood.   Every new map.  Now change them so they lead you towards finishing the game, or make them more frequent or bizarre... placed your 1000th torch, etc...  then of course a way to compare my e-peen minecraft achievement # with everyone else in the world and you've got a system.   Of course, they probably implemented this 5 seconds after the interview is posted, and I'll get 1000 death threats on how stupid I am and how it's already in the game, and then i'll cry some more and hide under my computer desk :(    Please no more yelling at me.  Instead.. just go follow me on twitter... @brentcopeland ;)

Interview with Block Fortress. Amazing Minecraft Builder

Here is another interview for you today. Today it is with Block Fortress, the amazing builder who's cinematic builds have been praised greatly.
BlockFortress on YouTube
BlockFortress on Planet Minecraft

Here we Go!

Sam Wilson: So, Block_Fortress. Explain Who You are to those who do not know.
Block Fortress: I am a minecarft builder who does cinematics of my builds, a few tutorials. And sometimes a couple of timelapses.

Sam Wilson: Awesome! Did you attend Minecon?
Block Fortress: No I did not. I live in New Zealand so it would take about 30 hours to fly there. Also I was in the middle of external eximations hahahaha. BUT I did get featured there in the 1 hour slot the yogscast got given.

Sam Wilson: Awesome! Enjoying the 1.0.0 Update?
Block Fortress: To be honest. Not really. I think notch made a mistake releasing it so early. He should have just made it beta 1.9. The game is simply not polished enough to be released publicly. As pointed out by the lovely people over by gamespot.
As for the new blocks etc. They do not really affect me. Most of them are for survival and not creative.

Sam Wilson: When you first played Minecraft, did you expect to be an amazing builder and did you expect that you would get over 6k YouTube subscribers?
Sam Wilson: xD
Block Fortress: That is a difficult question
Block Fortress: LOL
Block Fortress: Short answer no. I cannot explain on that though hahahha

Sam Wilson: Haha. What's your favourite mob?
Block Fortress: Ooooo well, deffinetly not the F***ing squid, or the chicken, cow, pig and DEFFINETLY not the sheep. Hmmm It would have to be the ghast.
Block Fortress: Because they freaked the crap out of Seananners and that made me laugh LOL
Sam Wilson: Haha.

Sam Wilson: What is your favourite thing about the game in general?
Block Fortress: The depth of creativity you can go to. It is so open and free. I can be searching in a random cave whilst avoiding creepers one minute then finishing off the final details of a massive citedal the next. You can do whatever you want without boundries. Well apart from the freaking height limit!

Sam Wilson: True. Do you play any other games apart from Minecraft?
Block Fortress: Skyrim. Nuff said

Sam Wilson: Haha. I don't have enough money to buy Skyrim! Finally, What would you like to see in future updates of Minecraft?
Sam Wilson: xP
Block Fortress: I would like to see more emphasis on creative mode. Such as better implementation of mods. More mobs, such as a cactus man to make deserts feel more lively. A fast fly mode button so it doesn't take me 5 months to get from one side of the build to the other. An Aether realm. Removal of the black goop down at bedrock level. Removal of the squid. AND OF COURSE a proper implementation of a height mod.
Sam Wilson: Awesome!

Interview with 3 Planet Minecraft Moderators!

Interviews Galore For All You Fledgelings! Up here is 3 Moderators from PlanetMinecraft!
Andrew Judd - Chosen Website - PlanetMinecraft
kacboy - Kacboy's Blog!
Charzhoopz - His PlanetMinecraft Profile!

Sam Wilson: Let's Go!
Sam Wilson: Okay
Sam Wilson: First Of all.
Sam Wilson: Introduce Yourselves.
Andrew Judd: I am juddaba and i am a forum moderator on PMC :3
charzhoopz: Hello, i am charzhoopz. I am a forums moderator on planet minecraft :)
kacboy: I am kacboy, gone by this username since '08. I like Minecraft and Uncharted. I was one of the first moderators on Planet Minecraft
Sam Wilson: Awesome.

Sam Wilson: Did any of you attend Minecon?
kacboy: *raises hand*
charzhoopz: I could not, since i don't even have a passport :$
Andrew Judd: i couldnt unfortunatly as i live in lil ol New Zealand
Sam Wilson: Aww, I didn't go this year. School and all that.
kacboy: pssh school
Andrew Judd: yeah, and finals at school would have been an issue aswell as money...it would have cost me ALOT xD

Sam Wilson: You guys enjoying the Minecraft 1.0.0 Update?
Andrew Judd: um, its OK
kacboy: Not as much as I'd like
charzhoopz: Yeah, i never thouhgt minecraft would result in potions 'n' such, but i'm starting to get the hang of it.
kacboy: I would enjoy it a lot more if villagers had quests and werent deformed squidwards in straight jackets
charzhoopz: I particularly like the enchanting though, so i can own n00bs easier ;)
Andrew Judd: there are some real problems which detour minecraft away from what it is surposed to feel like which is a creative sandbox. I dont like echantments or the concept of "the end" but i guess you can avoid both of those.
Andrew Judd: also...the new sounds quite frankly are terrible...

Sam Wilson: After you guys log on, do you click on the 'Single-Player' Button or the 'Multiplayer' Button?
kacboy: Multiplayer
kacboy: instantly
kacboy: regardless of what I want to play
charzhoopz: Depends, if i have aproject in mind to build or a mod to test, single player. But mostly Multiplayer.
Andrew Judd: Um, it really depends...
Andrew Judd: Like if i have a project (which i do at the moment) i will go into single player but if i want to game with mates i obviously would go on multiplayer
Sam Wilson: Awesome :)
kacboy: I'm already on a server by the time I realize I should be in single player
Andrew Judd: haha xD ...but yeah, its hard to find a good server these days that doesnt lag becuase im so far away from USA and the UK where the majority of them are hosted
charzhoopz: I don't find many servers from here in the UK.
Sam Wilson: xD
Andrew Judd: Europe then, heaps are in France
charzhoopz: Desticraft is, that's pretty big.
Andrew Judd: never heard of it xD

Sam Wilson: Which do you prefer. Creative or Survival?
charzhoopz: Creative.
Andrew Judd: Survival for sure
charzhoopz: But Survival on servers
Andrew Judd: but if im map making then it has to be creative
kacboy: Switching between them...

Sam Wilson: Alright. Have any of you guys tried making a mod?
Andrew Judd: I have made a mod
charzhoopz: i started a while back, had all of the programs, but didn't have any ideas and seemed to advance for me.
Andrew Judd: but it was in partnership with a friend of mine
kacboy: Nope, I just bother my bud Hibbsi when I have ideas...
Andrew Judd: wait, i have actually made 2 mods and one was reviewed with GameChap xD

Sam Wilson: Awesome! Do you guys play with mods? If so which mod is your favourite?
charzhoopz: I ony play with mods to help me in creative - Single player commands, Zombes fly mod and Too many Items. I couldn't build without them.
kacboy: I don't use anything that ads new blocks, just things that improve upon what is game already
Andrew Judd: TMI, SPC, Spawner GUI, Zombes ...just the ones for map making
charzhoopz: I use to mod my game heavily, every new mod i could find xD
kacboy: So flymod, spc, watershader
kacboy: That wavy tree one
charzhoopz: Would use water shader, but i haven't got my new computer yet :
kacboy: Etc.
Sam Wilson: Haha.

Sam Wilson: What would you guys like to see added in future updates?
kacboy: Quests
kacboy: Thats all
Sam Wilson: I agree.
Andrew Judd: better villages...where you can actually trade
charzhoopz: Longer reach in creative mode and smoother flying.
Sam Wilson: Haha.
Andrew Judd: smoother flying so timlapses dont look so jittery
charzhoopz: You fly like ice in creative :/
kacboy: Problem?
Andrew Judd: yeah, thats why i get zombes
charzhoopz: Same.

Sam Wilson: What other games do you guys play?
kacboy: Uncharted
Andrew Judd: im not actually a gamer, i dont own an xbox or a PS3
kacboy: I like 3rd person action games
charzhoopz: Saints row 3 and any deadrising game.
kacboy: Assassins creed, splinter cell, batman, etc.
Andrew Judd: if anything i <3 1st person more than 3rd...feels un-natural watching over your own body
Andrew Judd: i would rather feel like your the one in the game
charzhoopz: I hate all FPS's.
kacboy: I like watching movies, thus i like to watch the character im playing
charzhoopz: Batman AC and Splinter cell are awesome too.
Andrew Judd: even halo? cmon...halo is amazing
charzhoopz: And Serious Sam.
charzhoopz: Can't forget Serious Sam.
Andrew Judd: Serious sam?
charzhoopz: *facehoof*

Sam Wilson: Do you guys own Minecraft Pocket Edition on iOS or Android?
kacboy: I do
kacboy: I have a pic of what i built on twitter @kacboy
Andrew Judd: I own an iphone but i havent bought it yet...its just creative right?
kacboy: :D
charzhoopz: No, i have the old minecraft WE on my iPhone. But i can't be bothered to update it, because i'll have to jailbreak it again so i don't have the new one.
Sam Wilson: Haha.

Sam Wilson: Why do you think Minecraft has become such a successful game?
Andrew Judd: its unique
kacboy: Its a sandbox
kacboy: And all the kids have come to pla~y
charzhoopz: For it's originality and it being constantly updated and cheap.
Andrew Judd: it inties creativity with survival and adventure...not many games do that theres days
Sam Wilson: Awesome.

Sam Wilson: What is the best thing about working for Planet Minecraft?!
kacboy: Power
charzhoopz: Meeting new people, and making new friends.
Andrew Judd: The members make it fun
Andrew Judd: the trolls are fun to ban also...just saying
kacboy: And what they said...
charzhoopz: Oh, and the hatemail from people i ban.
Andrew Judd: of course, of course...we get alot of that.
kacboy: ^^
Sam Wilson: Haha

Sam Wilson: Are there any perks for working at PlanetMinecraft?
kacboy: Juggernaut Pro?
Sam Wilson: Haha
kacboy: What do you mean?
Andrew Judd: yes, we get reconnised by the community and other people outside of it e.g. youtubers and what not
charzhoopz: Just making new friends, i don't go into servers and hope for promotions.
You tend to get greeted more with moderator, so it is easier to make friends, but sadly enemies.
Andrew Judd: ^^^
kacboy: Being above the mosh pit...?
Sam Wilson: Haha.

Sam Wilson: Favourite Mob in Minecraft?
Andrew Judd: Slime...for sure
Andrew Judd: they are sooooooo cute :3
charzhoopz: Slimes.
kacboy: Chickens

Sam Wilson: Most Famous Person from the Minecraft community you have met/talked to?
kacboy: At minecon i met bebopvox and deadmau5
Sam Wilson: Nice :D
kacboy: Block_fortress is up there now.
charzhoopz: Not too famous, but Dr_Kalashkinov or something. She made bordercraft text. pack and is associated with 'The Creatures'.
Andrew Judd: I have talked to Bebopvox, LDshawdowlady, GameChap and i am good mates with Block_Fortress who made a yogscast Minecon video
Sam Wilson: Awesome!
charzhoopz: LDShadowlady? :O
Andrew Judd: and of course cyprezz who owns a website with 180,000 members...
kacboy: Ya
charzhoopz: Yep :P
Andrew Judd: yeah she has like 12k subs...i would consider that famous xD
charzhoopz: I <3 her! :P

Interview with Madmommy - A 'Minecraft Mom'

Today's interview was with Madmommy. A mom who plays Minecraft with her son and husband on her channel. She's very nice and I recommend that you subscribe and follow her!
@Madmommy on Twitter
Madmommy on YouTube

TheRussianPigeon: Okay, First Off, Explain who you are to those that do not know who you are.

madmommy: I'm a mom, wife, and fogey-gamer who is slightly "mad". I started playing Minecraft about a year ago, and was introduced to the MInecraftwb server. After watching Wolv21 and Luclin, I tried my hand at YouTube, and here we are at 2000 subs!

TheRussianPigeon: That's pretty awesome. Are you enjoying the 1.0.0 update?

madmommy: So far I'm most in love with the new sounds, especially the Ender sounds. That seriously freaked me out. I just wish I had more time, as I'm also currently in school to become a teacher.

TheRussianPigeon: Haha. The new sounds are pretty cool. Did you attend Minecon this year?

madmommy: No, but I wish I had! MrsLuclin and I have decided we need to go next year, and have a panel discussion (including PaulSoaresjr"s wife) on the MOMs (Moms of Minecraft).

TheRussianPigeon: Haha, I couldn't go because of school and the fact that I'd have to catch a plane half way across the world :D What would you like to see added to the game in future updates?

madmommy: I wish they would officially add in the Aether, and more animals (such as Mo Creatures). Both are GREAT mods and deserve a permanent home in the official game.

TheRussianPigeon: Yeah. Have you ever tried creating a mod?

madmommy: That's been beyond me so far. Maybe when I have more time I'll give it a try, but I think I'd rather try and create a nice texturepack.

TheRussianPigeon: Haha. What do you prefer, SinglePlayer or MultiPlayer?

madmommy: Multi-player, but only with close friends or family. Which is ironic, because I met many of my close Minecraft friends through a large online environment. My son, Yam (his Minecraft name), likes to play with my husband and I, but we have to turn off "bad-ful" mode (no monsters).

TheRussianPigeon: That's actually really awesome :) Do you prefer Survival or Creative?

madmommy: Survival. Period. Creative mode drives me nuts...I'm always breaking things! I will sometimes slip into Creative mode during one of our family sessions to seek out villages, or to produce some coveted items. But I'm not big into the building...I love the exploring!

TheRussianPigeon: That's what Minecraft is about! Which Version of Minecraft was the one which you played with first?

madmommy: I believe I bought Beta right after the Halloween update.

TheRussianPigeon: Nice! What is your favourite mob in the game?

madmommy: Hmmm. That's a tough one. If I could pick one from a mod, I'd say the Moa. But otherwise, I like creepers. Not that I like how they act, I just admire them for being the smartest mob in the game.

TheRussianPigeon: Yeah. If you could remove one thing from the game, what would it be?

madmommy: The villagers. I understand they will eventually have a purpose, but they are ugly as sin. What's with the big noses? And they are dumber than sheep :)

TheRussianPigeon: Haha. Last question, Which other games do you play? :)

madmommy: I've done a series on the Fogey Gaming channel on both Atari 2600 games and Myst. However, I've played Terraria in the past, and am currently addicted to Dragon Age: Origins.

TheRussianPigeon: Thank You Very Much!

End Interview

All in all madmommy is awesome and it's worth subscribing to her on youtube and following her on twitter.

Interview with BebopVox - Talking about Minecraft

Woah, what an eventful few days, interviewing 3 amazing people. Today's awesome interview was with BebopVox.
BebopVox Twitter! @BebopVox
BebopVox YouTube Subscribe Today!
www.bebopvox.com

Here we go.
Me : First, explain to anyone who doesn't know who you are, who you are.

BebopVox: I go by BebopVox, and I lose my mind producing The Minecraft Monday Show on Youtube

Me: I heard you attended Minecon, was it fun?

BebopVox: Fun doesn't come close to how crazy it was, and how blown away I was by the Minecraft community. I couldn't believe people wanted my autograph. Then by the end I went through 7 sharpies, to the point of even signing 2 laptops.

Me: Are you enjoying the 1.0.0 update of Minecraft?

BebopVox: To be honest I havn't had time to play it since Minecon. Right after I edited 6 minecon videos, produced the show, and went back to my real job which is being a C130 Crew Chief in the USAF at Ramstein Airforce Base in Germany, working crazy long hours.

Me: What would you like to see in future updates of minecraft?

BebopVox: Even more love for machinima. Like getting rid of black outlines on blocks when looking at them. or brining back the flycam options. Glitched or not.

Me: What is your favourite mob?

BebopVox
: Squid... It's so misunderstood
Me: What is your favourite thing about Minecraft?

BebopVox: Simply how it opens your imagination. I stopped playing a lot of MMO's because I felt myself losing my creativity playing a prebuilt game with no real freedom. Brings me back to my Second Life building days.

Me: Have you ever met Markus (Notch) in person?

BebopVox: Quite a few times. After E3 on the first night, a handful of us were at the E3 booth for a little after party. And it was just me, The Shaft Podcast, and Lydia (MCC), talking with Notch and having beer for a few hours with a few of the other Mojangsters.

Me: Who is your favourite person you have met through the Minecraft community?

BebopVox: Honestly I can't pick one because then i feel bad. There have been a reticulated amount of people I love in the community. I didn't I would come to know so many of them like I have over the year. Trust me though, they know who they are :)

Me: What other games do you play?

BebopVox: Pretty much everything, but most people don't see it. That's why I recently started doing "Lets Plays" because I figure, "If I'm going to spend all this time playing, why not record?". Can't wait for the new Assassins Creed to come out this month for PC though.

Me: Have you ever made a Minecraft mod and do you play with them in Single player?

BebopVox
: I hardly can redstone double doors to open, let alone code a mod.
Me: Do you prefer SinglePlayer or Multiplayer? Creative Or Survival?

BebopVox
: Multiplayer all the way, that's where the true Minecraft is. I like keeping to my roots of survival though.
Me: Did you see someone in a ski-mask at Minecon?

BebopVox: no but I did see a few troll mask.

Me: Finally, why do you think Minecraft has become so successful?

BebopVox
: I think sandbox games in general always do well. But it's when the video and editing community grab hold of it and make it shine even more. It took me quite a few videos to even want to try the game. honestly if it wasn't for that, i wouldn't have just went out and played it.
